JRE Tidbits Heyoka

This is a tidbit. Tidbits are smaller posts about quick interesting comments made on The JRE. That I Can post from my phone while they are on my mind.

Recently Joe brought up a policy the Sioux Nation had (Primarily the Lakota and some Dakota) of having a position called the

Heyoka

The Heyoka was a community jester or clown that would roast everyone about everything. This was important because he would also even roast the leaders and higher positions orlf power/chiefs.

If a chief deemed himself too powerful or important to be joked about, the people would consider this a sort of form of impeachment.

It kept the leaders from growing too powerful or big for their britches, all in good humor.

It brings to mind the relationship that seems to be developing on social media and the news where certain politicians deem themselves off limits for criticism.
