The Sam Altman Effect (Open AI)

 Sam Altman

OpenAI CEO Discusses A.I. Changing Society

Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, a leading Artificial Intelligence company, opens mentioning change has always happened in society and although great things WILL come from AI, we must consider what will go away and that AI will not be ALL good.

Altman mentions how human innovation from the first tools have been on a line to become what it is today with technology and the birth of real AI.

Altman believes abundant and cheap intelligence and energy will revolutionize the world like never before.

Joe asks Altman about jobs that AI will replace like factory lines, driving, etc. and what can be done to mitigate that loss in the job market.

Altman replies that he first thought AI would take blue collar labor jobs and then cognitive labor and "thinking" jobs, then he thought it would come for the creative job. Now, he believes AI may take creative jobs first, coding second and then human labor comes last with AI robots. He didn't exactly answer yet.

Joe Mentions it will still create a vacuum.

Altman replies by saying, hypothetically, we will have to by then establish universal basic income for many Americans and jobs that will go away as a cushion at least. Altman believes people will still invent new jobs and careers well into the future. He still hasn't answered what laborers and current workers will do. He mentions people are losing jobs to tech today and there is not much solace for them. He believes people still want to have a hand in creating the future and art.

Altman says it is important to include people in the decision making of AI and give people stock in AI.

Altman mentions giving all people a percentage of the money AI makes.

Joe Rogan wonders what would happen if an AI became government and solved all issues and created new forms of policy etc..

Altman replies we are very far away from a system that is capable of that. He says though, AI could eventually go to every person on earth and collectively optimize the preferences of citizens.

Rogan says as long AS IT IS NOT CO-OPTED as in only the left or government having access and power. Rogan wonders if AI can be unbiased in solving issues.

Rogan says he would be uncomfortable with AI making decisions right now, but also he is uncomfortable with these politicians making decisions right now as well.

Altman agrees the current system is corrupt and ran by money. He thinks AI can fix some of these issues but they have a long way to go.

Joe asks how long before Artificial intelligence becomes "godlike."

Altman says he believes the curve of revolution will be slow enough that we will be able to keep it under control and safe. He says it will eventually be able to create itself and improve upon itself but we will see it coming and control it. He says this will be challenging and things can go wrong....
